AMMONIA: SALICYLATE Berthelot Method
Range: 0 – 1 mg/L ( N-NH4)

PRINCIPLE

The automated procedure for the determination of Ammonia is based on the modified Berthelot reaction.

Ammonia is chlorinated to monochloramine with sodium dichloroisocyanurate which reacts with sodium salicylate/sodium nitroprusside to form a blue-green colored complex.

Sodium citrate or EDTA is added to eliminate the precipitation of the hydroxide of calcium and magnesium

The colored complex is measured at 660 nm
